Things I’ve added to my desk that actually make me want to sit down and work

I don’t know about you, but there are days where just sitting down at my desk feels like a lot.

Not even the work itself—just being there.

So lately, I’ve been slowly changing my setup.

Nothing extreme.
Just small things that make it feel:

  • a little more interesting

  • a little more comfortable

  • a little less… draining

And honestly, it’s helped more than I expected.

WHAT I STARTED PAYING ATTENTION TO

I realized it wasn’t just about productivity.

It was about:
👉 how my space felt

If my environment felt:

  • dull

  • cluttered

  • or mentally “flat”

…it made it harder to start anything.

So I started adding things that gave my brain:
👉 something to engage with (without distracting me)

WHAT I’VE BEEN USING

1. A keyboard I actually enjoy using

This one surprised me the most.

I switched to a more “clicky” keyboard—not for aesthetics, but because the feedback helps me stay engaged.

It sounds small, but:
👉 it makes typing feel more satisfying
👉 which makes it easier to keep going

2. Visual organization (that I can actually see)

I’ve tried hidden organization before…

Out of sight = out of mind 😅

So now I keep things:

  • visible

  • simple

  • easy to grab

Things like:

  • desk organizers

  • trays

  • small containers

Here are a couple I’ve been liking:

👉 Two Tiered Monitor stand (they have a bunch of fun colors!)
👉 Desk Organizer (multiple colors and sizes)

3. Things that make the space feel less “flat”

This one is harder to explain—but important.

If everything looks the same, my brain just… zones out.

So I added:

Nothing overwhelming.

Just enough to:
👉 make the space feel more engaging

4. A spot to get things out of my head

Even with a better setup, my brain still gets full.

So I keep something nearby to:

  • write things down

  • sketch out tasks

  • clear mental clutter

Usually:

  • a notebook

  • or a small whiteboard (this isn’t the EXACT one I got, but it’s basically the same)

WHAT I NOTICED AFTER

This didn’t magically fix everything.

But it did make it easier to:

  • sit down

  • stay a little longer

  • come back after breaks

And sometimes… that’s enough.

A lot of this comes back to the same idea:

👉 making things feel more doable

Not perfect.
Not optimized.

Just:
👉 easier to start
