What to do when you have too many things to do and no clear place to start

There are days when everything feels like too much.

Not just busy—but heavy.
Like there are too many things in your head, too many expectations, and no clear place to start.

So instead of beginning…

👉 you freeze

If that’s where you are right now, you’re not alone.

WHY THIS HAPPENS

When your brain is overloaded, it’s not just about having a lot to do.

It’s:

  • too many decisions

  • too many open loops

  • too much mental noise

And when everything feels important, your brain can’t prioritize.

So it does what it thinks is safest:

👉 it pauses

WHAT ACTUALLY HELPS

You don’t need to fix everything.

You need:
👉 to make one thing feel doable

STEP 1: GET IT OUT OF YOUR HEAD

Write everything down:

  • tasks

  • worries

  • reminders

  • things you’re trying to keep track of

Not organized. Not pretty.

Just out.

STEP 2: LOWER THE BAR

Instead of:

“What should I do first?”

Ask:

“What feels easiest to start?”

STEP 3: MAKE IT SMALLER

If the task feels like:

“start project”

Make it:

  • open the document

  • write one line

  • review one section

STEP 4: GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION TO STOP

You don’t have to finish.

You just have to:
👉 start

If sorting through everything feels overwhelming, having a guided way to break it down can help.

If this is something you run into often, I’ve put together a simple worksheet that walks you through turning a long list into something more manageable.

CLOSING✨

You don’t need to fix everything today.

Just start with one small thing.
